13. Acheulean tools

Acheulean stone tools, which first appeared 1.6 million years ago, were composed of mostly cutting tools, such as cleavers or hand axes. These tools were created and used mainly by Homo ergaster and Homo erectus. These tools were important mainly because they were the first ifacial tools, or tools that had a dual cutting edge, and because the tools had different uses in different forms, somewhat like a Swiss Army Knife for early hominids. These tools were first discovered in 1847, at the site of St. Acheul. acheulean9a.jpg
