13. How did spinning begin and what were the implications of the new clothing?
Return to *History 8 The End of the Stone Age Video Notes
The Beaker people evolved from the Ghassoulians and moved into northern Europe. The Beaker people found new sheep with curlier and denser fur, or fleece, and created the gentle craft of spinning. Clothing became warmer with this new material and craft. Dyes were extracted from plants by the first healers because of their prior knowledge of special plants. This material however, could only be afforded by the wealthy. This warmer clothing was also worn by the dead to the 'next world' or afterlife.
