Back to History 8 Fifth Mountain Readings

Example 1, The Phoenicians:

"Jezebel was right: the only way to keep the true faith alive was by doing away with the prophets... she knew that there comes a moment where violence is the only answer." (148) The Phoenicians and Jezebel attempt to unite the people and change their different beliefs. The prophets teach a different religious message than she would like them to and, for this reason, Jezebel wants to get rid of all of the prophets. By doing this, Jezebel is hoping to unite the people and their beliefs.

Example 2, The Hebrews:

"These people also returned, but with wonderful tales to tell. They had achieved everything they desired because they were not limited by the frustrations of the past." (180) In contrast to the Phoenicians, when they return, the Hebrews unite despite their past frustrations, which they choose to forget. The people are coming together with their frustrations behind them and they unify.
