Civilization did not begin with agriculture but rather with the combination of agriculture and herding. Though farming was a sedentary way of life it was not civilization (the process by which a society or place reaches an advanced stage of social development and organization, Webster) yet. All the community's efforts were focused on providing food; however, once agriculture and and herding combined there was a reliable source of food allowing for other activities and jobs. Once villages had a reliable source of food civilization began through thee combination of agriculture and herding.
