14. Why do the gods bring on the Flood? Is any reason given?
The gods met in a council and decided to destroy humankind with a massive flood for being to greedy and asking for to much. Ea, the god of wisdom, warned Utnapishtim, a commoner and family man, about the god's plans and told him how to fashion a large boat, much like Noah's ark, in which his family and the seed of every living creature could stay a-float in and survive. When the waters finally receded, the gods regretted what they’d done and agreed that they would never try to destroy humankind again. Utnapishtim was rewarded with eternal life. Many people would die, but humankind would continue as a whole.
