Sukar "Glimpsed his own ruin" (130), because if he hadn't assumed of who the man in the dark was without seeing him and treated him with respect, then it is posible that Sukar could be in Min's shoes, receiving good news. Instead, since Sukar did not know who the man was and disrespected him anyway, he will most likely be punished for his actions. Sukar is very surprised that Min is being treated well by Lord Meren, because he is an upper class citizen. In ancient Egypt, there was a pyramid-like structure of the social classes. The higher class citizens have command over the lower class citizens. Therefor, in Eater of Souls, for a upper class citizen like Lord Meren to treat a lower class citizen like Min with respect, was very strange and surprising.
