"'Perhaps the magician priests can divine the hiding place of this evil one' ... The king stood. 'Yes, [increase the guards on the city walls and the docks] and double the men on watch. I'll summon the mayor and make certain he understands that the city police are to make themselves vigilant. My majesty will have no more of this laziness and failure to report evil'" (150-151).

Because the Pharaoh does not want any more murders in his city, he calls for extra security, both spiritually and physically, around the city, specifically around his palace to protect himself and his people from the murderer or, worse, the demon.
