Return to History 8 Near East Vocabulary

The Sea Peoples were a group of nations of naval raiders who lived from 1276-1178 BCE. These people raided and plundered the coastal area of the Mediterranean. The tribes that made up the Sea Peoples were the Sherden, the Sheklesh, the Lukka, the Tursha and the Akawasha. There are no records that describe the Sea Peoples origins, but there has ben conjecture that they may have been, Etruscan, Philistine, Mycenaen, or Minoan. The Sea Peoples had great success in their encounters with the peoples of the Levant, they were able to defeat many powerful nations of the Levant.
