Return to History 8 Culture Origins Vocabulary

Enculturation is the acquisition of culture. People are not born with culture, therefore it must be taught. For example, a child cannot be born with the ability to speak a language or know the rituals of a religion. Children learn culture from adults which teaches them how to fit in to the cultural norms. Enculturation plays a big part in the passing on of cultures from one generation to another.
