"Maat is the divine order of existence, which was brought into being upon the creation. Maat governs the seasons, the stars, the relationship between mortals and the gods, and above all, rightness and justice. Pharaoh rules through the authority of the goddess Maat." (191) Maat is perhaps best understood as an idea, instead of a goddess., maat was central to conceptions of the universe, the balance and divine order in Ancient Egypt. Maat is also know as the winged goddess.
