Shalmeneser III, a Assyrian king who lived from 858-824 BC, conquered all of Mesopotamia. This was the greatest period of conquest in Mesopotamian history. The exigencies, which is a case or situation that demands prompt action or remedy, of war excited many new technological inventions: iron swords, lances, metal armor, and battering rams. These new weapons made Shalmeneser and his army an extremely fearsome enemy in battle that nobody wanted to fight.
