The Neo Babylonian empire fell into the control of the Assyrian's king Nabonidus in 555 BCE. This began the fall of the empire. Since a new ruler came into power, some of the culture was shifted around such as the Babylonian religion. The religion was changed when the new king placed one of the Assyrian gods above the Babylonian's god. This god that was replaced stood for the city of Babylon and the people within it. They civilians revolted and the priests of Babylon welcomed Cyrus the Conqueror of Persia to end the Semitic domination of Mesopotamia.
