Thutmose I was a pharaoh of the 18th dynasty and is known for the expansion of Egypt's borders into Nubia and Syria. He expanded the borders for two plausible reasons, the first being Nubia's rich gold deposits. The second motivation being that a harsh Kushite king living near that region had been warring with Egypt for quite some time, and King Thutmose wanted to stop it. Next, he expanded the borders north and east towards the Euphrates river, where he established the river as Egypt's border. In Thebes, he renovated/reuilt the temple of Amon, and made a safe enclosure around it in order to protect it. Next he built the Axile temple, which would become the standard temple in the years to come. Upon his death, he became the first Pharaoh to be buried in the Valley of Kings.
