Return to History 8 Near East Vocabulary

Cyrus the ||, also known as Cyrus the Great, founded the Achaemenid empire. Centralized in Persia, Cyrus the Great's kingdom looked fondly upon him, as he was the first ideal monarch. His empire rose by uniting the Medes and the Persians. He created a government which included both Persian and Median officials. He broaden his frontier first to the east and then gradually to the west, defeating Babylon which liberated the Jews from slavery. By freeing the Jews, much respect was gained for Cyrus the Great, and he was admirable to all people he ruled over. Instilling the first Character of Human Rights, Cyrus successfully spread his principle of bringing peace to Mankind. Cyrus soon became the epitome of great kings and had the great qualities necessary for a beloved ruler. Not only was Cyrus a conqueror, but a generous king who cared tremendously about the well-being of his kingdom.
