Suppiluliumas I was a Hittite King between 1369-1328 BCE. Suppiluliumas consolidated the Hittite land and improved the defenses of Hatussas. He extended the circuit of city walls to enclose nearly 300 acres! After taking care of his homeland, Suppiluliumas tried to make peace with the Mitanni, the Hittite's foremost enemy at the time. He then went on to conquer new lands. First, he conquered Kadesh, then Suppiluliumas extended his empire until it included central Syria, Lebanon, and key cities such as Aleppo and Alalakh. Suppiluliumas eventually expanded until he reached Damascus. Later on, as he was marching against Carchemish, Suppiluliumas received a proposal from the Egyptian Queen that he send one of his sons to be her bride. His son was murdered on the way there. Suppiluliumas did not have much time for revenge as he died soon after, falling victim to a plaque.
