31. Nerfertiti
Return to History 8 Egypt ID's
Rumored to be the most beautiful woman in Egypt during the 14th century B.C., Nefertiti was Pharaoh Amenhotep (Akhenaten)'s Queen from 1353 to 1336 B.C. Unlike many other queens of the time, she held a powerful position in the kingdom. It is very possible that she ruled after Amenhotep's death. When she was in power, there was cultural upheaval because she and Akhenaton began a religious revolution for the concept of one god. They switched their regional god from Amen to Aten. They also moved the court of the city elsewhere, sending a message to their people that if they wanted to be part of this government, they had to adapt to what Nefertiti and Akhenaten wanted.
