4. Describe the importance of gardening

Gardening played a key role in the transition from a nomadic lifestyle to a sedentary one. Gardens require time to grow which means that people must stay in one play to tend and eventually harvest their gardens. "Settling down in a community does not lead to gardening- gardening leads to settling down in communities" (CF Manuel pg 63). It was also necessary to stay in one place after the harvest in order to store the surplus amounts of food.
