Return to History 8 Near East Questions Early civilization began to collapse during 2,300 BCE. Towns like Levant were ditched and decreased in population. All of these abandoned towns were caused by severe droughts and a global climate change. Also, Canaan's trade with Egypt decreased leaving them with fewer resources. The Early Bronze Age then collapsed and in order to survive, the people had to transfer to farming and pastoral nomadism. The Canaanites were now not involved with walled towns for the next 350 years.
