The second reason history is an interpretation according to Edwin Fenton is that not all records from the past can be recovered. For example, the Library of Alexandria, which is thought to have contained nearly 700,000 scrolls, burned down in a fire whose causes have still not been agreed on by historians today. Nevertheless, because the Library of Alexandria was destroyed, a large amount of early history was made irrecoverable, so we have to interpret what happened both to the Library of Alexandria, and what we could have know from the documents that were destroyed.
