Pastoralism is the branch of agriculture that deals with the raising of life stock. Pastoralists care, tend to and use animals such as goats, cattle, pigs, and sheep. Since many of the herds of large animals became scarce, people began to manage herds of animals to have a reliable food source. People did this by keeping the animals in pens. Pastoralism has thrived in places such as central Asia and the savanna zone of East and South Africa. Pastoralism is most commonly in semi-arid country where farming cannot be easily sustained.
