Back to History 8 Egypt Questions

The Hittites' fall was very abrupt, and historians still argue about how their empire ended. Some scholars believe that internecine warfare brought down the Hittites. However, others believe that large-scale migrations including the Sea People were responsible for the fall of the Hittites. Although the heart and soul of the Hittite empire was lost due to the Phrygians, dominions such such as the Cilicians and Syrians retained the Hittite cultural identity for many centuries, evolving into city-states. This lasted until Neo-Hittite political independence had been obliterated (Manual 113).

Post-Decline of the Hittites

After the Hittites fell, Anatolia and the Middle East was shaken and havoc arose. Groups of Sea Peoples moved along the southern coast of Anatolia and the shores of Palestine and Syria and caused great trouble and upheaval (Manual 113).
