Return to History 8 Near East Vocabulary

A covenant is defined as a formal or serious agreement. In relevance to Near East, it is a sacred agreement between God and a person or group of people. Multiple covenants have been made throughout ancient jewish history, an example being the one made between God and Abraham. Another covenant was made later on between God and Moses, involving ten commandments. These ten commandments were etched onto stone and then placed inside an ornate golden box, the ark of the covenant.
