CONTINUITIES

Historical continuities are long term patterns that shape a region's history. Two of the continuities that shaped civilization are landscape and climate. For example, during the rise of civilization, as mankind settled into the environments and began manufacturing products and using resources, the environment was affected. The use of trees caused forests to deteriorate and decrease in size. The soil was loosened and therefore eroded into the river waters revealing a source of alluvium. This expanded the plain of Iraq but also had negative effects on the environment. Environmental continuities led groups to explore and settle into the south, expanding the spread of civilization.
