8. metallurgy

This is the branch of science that deals with metals. This pertains to history because our ancestors advanced our knowledge of metals when they started using copper and bronze. Now, we use metallurgy to learn about metals and advance our knowledge. Many engineers go into the field of metallurgy. There are three branches of metallurgy, they are physical metallurgy, extractive metallurgy, and mineral processing. Physical metallurgy has to do with structures of metals and what can be made out of those metals. Extractive metallurgy deals with the extraction of metals from their original place. Mineral processing is the process of separating valuable materials from their original place, their ores. The field of metallurgy has been greatly important in the advancement of technology and will continue to be for years to come.
