9. Give the characteristics of those who follow a pastoral way of life.
Back to History 8 Agriculture Concepts
As the climate became warmer and wetter, the hunter-gatherer lifestyle began to end. When this happened people had two choices, to choose a horticultural way of life, or a pastoral one. According to the American Society for Horticulture Science, “Horticulture is the science and art of producing, improving, marketing, and using fruits, vegetables, flowers, and ornamental plants”, basically meaning it is a more farming based way of life. Unlike horticulture, pastoralism is a more nomadic way of life that involves herding domesticated animals. From living only with domesticated animals such as, goats, sheep, and cattle, pastoral people have grown independent. As well, moving from place to place often has made them resilient. In conclusion, from being independent, and resilient, pastoralism has been successful in standing the test of time, by being still used in today's modern societies.
