Culture is the pattern of behavior and thinking that people living in social groups learn, create, and share. Culture also works to distinguish one human group from another, as well as humans from other animals. A person's culture includes their beliefs, rules of behavior, language, rituals, and religion. All of the above except for language describe and tell the humans in the specific group how to live, and what to believe. Language is an essential feature to culture because it is a symbolic form of communication. Language and other forms of symbolic communication, such as art, enable people to create, explain, and record new ideas and information. Language provides a means to store, process, and communicate amounts of information organized into systems of meaning.
