Mesopotamia became a powerful empire, mostly because of technological advances. Mesopotamia is located between the tigris and euphrates river, on a stretch of extremely fertile land called the fertile crescent, which the early inhabitants utilized in many different ways. Early forms of irrigation were used to move water from the mountains surrounding the fertile crescent, to the cities below. Eventually, metal-working, organized religion and writing came to be, all of which made tMesopotamia stronger. All technological advances advanced the civilizations leading to a greater and broader knowledge of the world and opening up new possibilities.
