In chapter 11 of Eater of Souls Meren describes how the pharaoh is the only human worthy of interacting with the gods. If the Eater of Souls is among the humans, then it is the Pharaoh's responsibility to "handle" him. The book specifically states that "the golden one is the intermediary between the people and the gods". (163) In order to protect his people, The Pharaoh will ask Osiris, the king of the Netherworld, to bring the Eater of Souls back to the "land of the dead". Using his power he will try to tether The Eater of Souls back to the Underworld.
