22. Give an example of class distinctions.

In Eater of Souls, there are many examples of distinctions and highlights in class, one being how the "smaller boats bobbed and dipped. The royal barge remained almost immobile" (193). Although the wind is blowing and waves are crashing equally on all of the ships, the superior construction, material, and size of the royal barge makes it quite obviously less fragile and more reliable. A more blunt highlight of class is in the description of transgressions of the 'evil one'. He possessed "a rank so high that it brought unequaled magnificence and wealth and made the favored one seem like a beggar" and "all admired the evil one. The fiend walked a golden path surrounded by precious jewels, countless slaves, servants, and admirers. Where the fiend went, awe, praise, and fascination followed. The creature existed in a silvery mist of speldor..." (194). The evil one's power and status is acknowledged by the presence of lavish and exorbitant items such as a golden path and is paraded with gifts such as slaves and servants simply for his state.
