Factors that Regulate the Climate

Baghdad is close to 30 degrees N latitude, in the mid latitudes high pressure area. Its topography is mainly flat and the Persian Gulf is about 330 miles to the SE. The prevailing winds tend to be from the SE and this might have to do with its proximity to the Persian Gulf. Baghdad is humid most of the year. During the winter, fronts come from the N creating a N wind. Baghdad is much like West Texas in that it is hot and dry in summer, and cool and rainier during winter. Spring and fall are brief but pleasant.
