Cuba is in a low pressure area, warm because of its altitude, and humid because of its close proximity to the gulf, so Cuba is often hit by hurricanes, but Havana is not as severely affected because the city is on the north coast, causing hurricanes to travel over land to reach Havana.

Havana is on the North American Plate and is approximately 271 miles or 437 kilometers from the divergent boundary between the north american plate and the Caribbean plate. Underneath havana there is mainly granite because the north american plate is continental, although basalt can be found as you go further east.
