Plate: South end of North American Plate

Plate Boundary: Oaxaca is near the intersection of the Caribbean, Cocos, and North American Boundaries.

-In this area, both sides of the boundary are higher than the surrounding area.

-This area contains both shallow and deep earthquakes.

-This area has new rock formations in areas and no rock formation in others.

-This area has scattered volcanoes and tightly packed arcs of volcanic islands.

Rock Under Area: Oaxaca seems to be over large amounts metamorphic rock, specifically large amounts of schist and granodiorite and a little limestone. This is because the parent rock of schist, shale, had been pushed underground and melted over time to become schist. Granodiorite is here because it is an igneous rock, meaning that it was once magma and cooled to become granodiorite. Lastly, limestone is here because it is a chemical sedimentary rock, meaning that used to be underwater.
