Factors that Regulate the Climate
Tabriz is close to 40 degrees N latitude, in the mid latitude high pressure area. It is located between the Eynali and Sahand mountains on a fertile plain fed by the Aji and Ghuri rivers. It is very dry much of the year despite its relative proximity to Urmia lake, a very large body of water. The high pressure and prevailing summer easterlies prevent much precipitation, because Urmia lake is north of Tabriz and Tabriz is too far inland to receive precipitation from the ocean. [3]
Geology
Tectonic Plate Boundary Near Tabriz
Houston is situated on the Eurasian Plate on a plate boundary.
Rocks that Underlie Tabriz
Tabriz is underlain by 100's of feet of metamorphic and igneous rocks. Their existence is justified by the fact that Tabriz is situated on the Tabriz Fault, which is part of a plate boundary. The plates are moving together, creating heat and pressure that facilitate the formation of metamorphic rock, and the volcanoes encourage igneous rock.
