Early Harappans had very small villages and village centers. All of these small-scale villages had extensive irrigation, much like the same subsistence patterns the village Mehgarh had. The early Harappan people ate a large variety of plants, such as barley, wheat, and more, all according to the cycles of the Indus River. The way they planted according to the floods was much like the Egyptians. The result of the Harappan's emphasis on irrigation and agriculture created a plethora of irrigation systems around which human civilizations were built. Basically, the Harappans relied heavily on the Indus River and their irrigation systems.
