Hatshepsut was Pharaoh during the New Kingdom. Hatshepsut was actually a she, but ruled as a man with a fake beard. She was the eldest daughter of Thutmose and Queen Ahmose. She ruled for 21 years, and her step-son, who should have been in command, was second-in-command. She depicted herself in pictures as a male king; however, in scripts and texts, she used feminine endings. When she died in 1458 BC, her son Thutmose III became one of the greatest Egyptian pharaohs in history.
