History of Computers - ARPANET
Introduction
In 1972, the first international connections were made using the ARPANET, the predecessor to the Internet. The message that was sent was "lo" because the system crashed before the intended phrase, "login," could be sent[1]. The ARPANET was the predecessor to the Internet.
Overview
The ARPANET was developed by ARPA during the Cold War. The ARPANET communicated by sending packets between two computers. The ARPANET spanned the United States, going from the East Coast and the Pentagon to Hawaii.
Significance
ARPANET is significant to the history of computers because the Internet is full of win not to mention everyone connects to the Internet. Also, next generation operating systems are predicted to use the Internet for computing things. The Internet is also a very large entity that exists entirely electronically.
