Introduction

The Data-Phone made by AT&T was the first machine that combined a telephone and a modem, which was made in 1960. At&T first modem was released two years earlier, in 1958.

Overview

This Data-Phone could transfer bits at a faster rate than modems at the time, and was a great tool to be used by businesses. This invention led to the invention of a pager, and a phone that could automatically dial a number from a punch card give to it.

Significance

The Data-Phone could transfer data at 110 bits per second. Businesses could use this to transfer data as well as make or receive transactions. This led to modern telephones with the ability to transfer calls, as well as sending a receiving data.
