Diskeeper is a defragmentation software that operates on Microsoft Windows.

Overview

Fragmentation refers to the condition of a disk in which files are divided into pieces, scattered around the disk. Fragmentation natural occurs with computer activity: creation, deletion, and modification of files. [2] Strands of data become interrupted with small fragments and slow down the speed at which the computer accesses information.

However, since 1981, when Diskeeper Corporation released Diskeeper Software, the problem of fragmentation has become less of an issue. [3] Diskeeper finds all the pieces of a files, arranges them, and puts them back together to form contiguous files. [4]

Diskeeper software is constantly updating and improving. In 2007, Diskeeper realized a technological breakthrough with InvisiTasking. InvisiTasking allows Diskeeper technology to eliminate fragmentation on the fly, in real time, so that fragmentation does not has a chance to interfere with the system. [5] More recently, Diskeeper Corporation has released Diskeeper 2010, which is complete with IntelliWrite technology. The ability of IntelliWrite reaches beyond defragmentation and prevents fragmentation before it happens, provides better file write perfomance, and takes an energy friendly approach to improving performance. [6]

Significance

Diskeeper allows computers to stay funcionable and efficient. Small business to large corporations rely on Diskeeper software to monitor computer performance and reliability to their laptops, desktops and servers. Diskeeper increases computer systems speeds, reliability, life spans, and energy efficiencies. Without this technology, computers would be significantly less helpful and desirable.
