Intro
The POWER4 CPU, developed by IBM, was the first duel core CPU meaning it essentially held two microprocessors on a single die, allowing for operations to be completed more quickly.
Overview
Released in 2001, the POWER4 was a top-of-the-line CPU, able to run at double the speed of a normal CPU which ran at about 600MHz. The CPU became used by businesses as well as scientific organizations but never became widely used by the public because of its steep price range.
Significance
The POWER4 was significant to the computer industry because it ushered in a new era of CPUs, doubling their speed doubled the efficiency of the user of the computer and paved the way for future realeases such as quad core CPUs.
