Google Inc. is an American multi- billion corporation, with its net worth around $23 billion. Google is unique as it was the first search engine to organize it search queries by the amount of links to each site. Its name, “Google” refers to the idea that Google has an infinite amount if accessible information, as “Googol” means 10100 (a mathematical idea of 10 with 100 zeros behind it).

History of Google Google began in January 1996, as a research project by Stanford students Larry Page and Sergey Brin, based on the idea that a search engine that counted the amounts of links to a page would be a more efficient operating system. Originally nicknamed “BackRub” (because it would check the amount of links to a webpage), the young company was in competition with a similar engine, Rankdex (which never became as well known as Google). The new system was operated at Stanford for over a year, but eventually Google took up too much bandwidth on Stanford servers. By 1997, Page and Brin decide to rename their company, calling it Google. In August of 1998, they received their 1st check- $100,000 from Andy Bechtolsheim, who put complete faith in an uncreated company. By September, the two entrepreneurs had set up a small office in Susan Wojcicki's garage at 232 Santa Margarita, Menlo Park, California. By February of 1999, Google, with a total of 8 employees, outgrows Susan’s garage and moves to 165 University Avenue in Palo Alto. However, the new location does not last for long, and the group hires their first Google chef and move to Silicon Valley, at 2400 E. Bayshore. Over the next 9 years, Google continued adding languages, moving locations, and stepping up on the World Wide Web. Only 13 years after its creation, Google now incorporates add-ons, such as Gmail (Google mail), Google Earth, Google in Multiple Languages (23 as of January, 2009), and Google’s annual April Fool’s jokes.

Google's Logos

Google has had multiple logos over the years, beginning from simple block letters to the G that everyone knows today. In addition, Google creates logos for special holidays, such as New Year and Earth day.

In addition, Google changes its logo for events such as April Fool's day, with Swedish Chef (Bork! Bork! BORK!), Google MentalPlex, and Pigeon Rank.

And of course, the very first logo, when Google was still "Backrub"
