Keyboard-Standard keyboards, such as the 104-key Windows keyboards, include alphabetic characters, punctuation symbols, numbers and a variety of function keys. The internationally-common 102/105 key keyboards have a smaller 'left shift' key and an additional key with some more symbols between that and the letter to its right.

Importance of Keyboard

The keyboard has been used for data entry since typewriters were invented. The keyboard successfully made the jump from being used for data entry via typewriters to data entry via computers. The keyboard was the primary integrated computer peripheral well into the era of personal computing from 1967 till 1984 with the introduction of the mouse. Despite no longer being the preferred navigation tool the keyboard still has its important functions. For example certain functions of the computer such as the BIOS can only be navigated with a keyboard. The keyboard is also required at all times because the computer will not work without a having a means of data entry [2].
