Windows Movie Maker

Windows Movie Maker is a video editing program, released in 2000, with the ability to add music files, add or subtract things from the original file, creating a new file of your own creation. Windows Movie Maker is very useful when editing partial clips, adding effects or transitions, and add music.

Versions

There are many versions of Windows Movie Maker prior to the current edition such as:

History

Introduced in 2000 as Windows Me, but this edition was ridiculed for its modest featuresin comparison to iMovie from Apple, then a year later, the Windows XP came out and the 2.0 version was released for free. Then the 2.1 was included in the Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Windows XP Media Center Edition included the 2.5 edition with more transitions and support for DVD burning. And Finally Windows Movie Maker in Vista has new effects, transitions, and has an HD edition for importing HDV camcorders.

Functions

Windows Movie Maker can import videos, images, and music to put them together with transitions, effects, and adding credits to the beginning or the end of the video.

The accepted files to import are: .WMV .ASF .MPG .AVI (DV-AVI) .WMA .WAV .MP3. The speed and clarity of “clips” imported depends on the amount of file fragmentation on the hard drive. During the importation of the video, the video is broken down into “clips”, but only on the movie maker, the original file is not broken down. When the whole file is imported, the clips would then show in the “Collection” file, and from there you can place your clips in the timeline, or the storyboard, it doesn’t matter it all depends on the editing format that you prefer. While creating your video, you can add any transition in between clips or add an effect to the clip, from tinting it a spectrum of colors to speeding the entire clip up. If a clip is too long or you want to take some parts of the original file off your final product, all you have to do is put your clip on the timeline, stop at the point of your movie that you want to cut off, and hit split clip, either in the menu bar under clips or the button under the video editing window, and voila, your clip is now cut into two parts, from there you can right-click the clip and hit the delete button, now your movie is ridden of the movie parts that you dont want.
