Basic Overview:

YouTube is a worldwide video sharing website that allows people of all ages to view or post videos. (Actually, to post, you have to be 13 or older.) In order to post a video, one has to create a YouTube account for their videos. A YouTube video can be rated on a scale of 1 to 5 stars, can be commented on, can be favorited, the possibilities are endless! A way for people to be notified when one of ones favorite YouTube accounts posts a new video is called Subscribing. Every time somebody’s subscription uploads a new video, the user is notified. Some of YouTube’s most subscribed accounts include Fred with 758,857 and counting, Nigahiga with 736,568 and counting, and Smosh with 679,672 and counting. YouTube is a thriving website with pretty much any type of video imaginable. Whether it’s a Sports Center Top 10 highlight or a how to bake a cake video, it will be on YouTube. How it started: YouTube was founded February 15th, 2005 by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim, who were all early employees of PayPal. YouTube received funding from Sequoia Capital in November 2005 and was officially launched one month later in December. YouTube has struck numerous partnership deals with content providers such as CBS, BBC, Universal Music Group, Sony Music Group, Warner Music Group, NBA, The Sundance Channel and many more. It is now sponsored by many companies and gets a lot of this funding from these sponsors. Random Facts: 1) A YouTube user subscribes to Fred about every 2 seconds! 2) Some of the most viewed videos on YouTube include The Evolution of Dance, Achmed the Dead Terrorist, Girlfriend by Avril Lavigne (Featuring Lil Mama), and many others. 3) YouTube enables a user to watch videos in normal quality, high quality, and even HD. 4) YouTube lets one view skits or parts from TV shows they might have missed. Popular videos or skits on YouTube come from SNL, MadTV, etc…

YouTube is one of, if not the most popular video sharing website in the world.
