Mentuhotep was the 4th king of the 11th dynasty, and ruled from 2060-2010 BC. His name means "Montu (the god of war) is content". Mentuhotep was either the son or the heir of Intef III. When Mentuhoptep came into power, all the differnt regions of Egypt were fighting for control over the country. Mentuhotep was able to oppress all of the protesters and fighters, and united Egypt into one country again. The unification of Egypt turned the first intermediate Period into the Middle Kingdom. Mentuhotep had three known wives: Tem, Neferu (the mother of his heir), and Henhenet (who died during childbirth). Mentuhotep, after uniting Egypt, was a peaceful ruler who ruled for about 50 years and was eventually buried in Deir el-Bahari in an impressive temple. He was also the first to be buried at Deir el-Bahari, at the base of the cliffs.
