Format
Format- The arrangement of data on a disk able to be read by the computer. A storage medium is any technology (including devices and materials) for reading and righting. The storage medium creates internal address tables that it uses to find information. A disk must be formatted before it may be used. However all of this only applies to high level format. Low level format on hard disks determines what type of disk controller can get to the disk. Almost all hard disks that you buy have already had a low level format. The only reason left to perform a low level format on your own would be so that you could change the controller that can get to the disk. Any information that you might have on the disk will be erased during a low level format.
