Serial Port

A serial port is a part of a computer allowing information to be transported to another device using serial transmission*. The Serial port can receive data from devices such as modems and mouses. One example of a serial port is if someone were to try and open the Internet (by clicking the internet icon with their mouse), it would take a serial port to transmit the request by the mouse to the computer so the request could be filled.

A serial port looks like a small rectangle with several openings where things can be plugged in to





  • Serial Transmission is the transmission of data one bit at a time. It can connect computers to printers
