The reasons for the Mycenae collapse

Historians are not sure of the exact reason that Mycenae collapse, but there are multiple possibilities as to why this civilization collapsed. Excavated sites have revealed fortified walls and an underground water supply, which may indicate that there was an increased threat of invasion towards the end of this civilization. There were sites excavated that showed houses that had been purposely burned. There is evidence of an earthquake, and this has led to the theory that an earthquake damaged Mycenae. The conclusions are a mix of both environmental disaster and human invasion. The true reason for the fall of Mycenae, however, remains a mystery. One of the curious things about the fall of this civilization is that they lost their system of writing. They abandoned all cities and became nomads or small farmers. RB
