Beliefs

The religious element is difficult to identify in Mycenaean civilization, due to lack of information via records. The Mycenaeans practiced a polytheistic religion. The main male god was the sky god. Ancient Mother Earth represented female gods. Mycenaean deities served as predecessors to the Olympian gods known so well today. It is worth noting that the myth of the minotaur likely came from Mycenaean beliefs. At some point in time, sections of Minoan and Mycenaean religions converged and the Minoan goddesses were adopted into Mycenaean religion. There is evidence of sacrifice among Mycenaean religion. From the existing evidence it appears as though the Mycenean religion was the father of Greek religion
