Nirvana

Samsara is an endless wheel of death and rebirth, which everyone goes through until they achieve enlightenment. Nirvana is the term for a new level of existence reached by people who have been enlightened after they escape from the wheel of samsara. Nirvana is seen as the ultimate goal. It literally means unbinding or extinguishing, like a candle flame, because it is seen as freedom from whatever is on earth that binds you. Once these bindings are overcome, you no longer need to go through the endless cycle of life and death and achieve Nirvana, or ultimate bliss.
