16. Stratigraphy
According to Webster's online dictionary Stratigraphy is "geology that deals with the origin, composition, distribution, and succession of strata, and the arrangement of strata". Also, according to SEPM Strata, stratigraphy is the process of understanding and recording the change and patterns in layered rocks and their composition. Stratigraphy mostly deals with the sequence in which sediments are deposited and how they form layers. Those who study stratigraphy will mostly study the age ofd the rocks, the composition, and how the rocks were eroded and accumulated over time. A great example of Stratigraphy is the Grand Canyon, the grand canyon shows its different sedimentary layers that were cut through over time by the Colorado River. Many geologists study at the Grand Canyon because it is very easy to see the rock and the layer in which they lay.
